London Mayor Johnson upsets markets

Boris Johnson, the mayor of London, came out over the weekend in opposition to UK Prime Minister David Cameron's desire to keep the UK in the EU.

Johnson's comments have roiled currency markets today and will likely add to the pound's volatility versus the US Dollar in the months leading up to the vote on the referendum.

Recent opinion polls generally put those campaigning to preserve the U.K.’s EU membership in the lead, but the gap has narrowed in a number of surveys. Most investors say the U.K. is likely to remain in the EU, but acknowledge that nervousness over the vote will weigh on markets in coming months.
