C'est plus facile? J'espère! (It's easier? I hope)

The prospect of working in France can be highly appealing to most expats, as it claims the third largest economy in the Eurozone and sixth largest economy in the world. As such, there are always opportunities for talented individuals to find a job in France. So, it may not be difficult to talk someone into taking an assignment to France, especially Paris, but that does not mean that it will be an easy process! Like most destinations, there are some pretty unique elements for both the company and the employee (and family) that can pop up in the process.

Work and residential visas are usually the starting point. France is a Schengen member-state, which means that citizens from a number of countries can enter for short stays without having to apply for a visa. When it comes to long-term or permanent stays, securing a long-stay visa and residency permit (carte de séjour) is considerably more of an uphill battle for non-EU or non-EEA nationals. The carte de séjour is valid for one year and the renewal process can be started two months prior to expiration.

But back in March of 2019, the French government unveiled a complete overhaul of the French Tech Visa for employees working for a tech company. France took a contrarian stance by making it easier to go work there. Now, according to the article below from Newland Chase, effective July 1, 2019 a new decree will amend the requirements for posting other workers to France and should help simplify posting procedures while strengthening inspections.

We highly encourage you to speak with your immigration partner to review the impact of the new decrees and determine whether this will reduce the time needed to secure proper work visas and residency permits. From there, arranging for housing and a local bank account are the next steps to getting up and running.

Plus facile? Nous verrons!  Bonne chance mes amis.

Effective 1 July 2019, a decree has amended the requirements for posting workers to France. Additional information must be included in the posting declaration, including the sex of the assignee and their hourly rate of pay, rather than monthly salary. Information about the posting company’s representative, including their contact details must be included, along with the location of the documents related to the posting which must be made available to the labour inspectorate on demand. The updated declaration form reduces the list of mandatory information related to the identification of the client. A separate document designating the posting company’s representative in France no longer needs to be submitted.
