U.S. raising travel alert to Level 4 globally - "Do Not Travel"

Global travel restrictions are not surprisingly going up one more notch. With "Level 4" being the absolute highest level for a travel alert, the United States State Department is imposing it's most restrictive travel alert yet that is aimed to prevent Americans from traveling overseas to any and all countries. "The Department of State advises U.S. citizens to avoid all international travel due to the global impact of COVID-19."

This report today explained that, "While the U.S. has barred flights from China and most European nations, and closed the border with Canada to non-essential travel, Americans have continued to fly -- although in limited numbers -- to other nations that have outbreaks."

Americans abroad would also be instructed to either return to the United States or prepare to shelter in place. Some are worried this will cause panic among Americans abroad and feel that it will be very challenging to find flights under the current conditions. Some countries, like Guatemala, have a current ban on any flights coming or going.

The State Department warns that if you choose to travel internationally, your travel plans may be severely disrupted, and you may be forced to remain outside of the United States for an indefinite period of time.

The State Department is preparing to raise its travel alert to Level 4 for the entire world, an unprecedented move aimed at stopping Americans from going overseas as the Trump administration tries to get control of the coronavirus, according to a person familiar with the matter.
