How are you going to make your mobility program better in 2021?

Heading into a new year, are you considering ideas for bettering your mobility program? Sometimes, looking at what others are boldly doing in other industries is helpful. The recent decision by WarnerMedia that it will be releasing its entire 2021 slate of movies on HBO Max is a super interesting example of agile decision-making that is taking into account the reality of the situation while trying to balance the needs and wants of the customer. I respect their willingness to take the risk, knowing that we have to learn how to make decisions without the ability to see around the corner. I heard Sara Fischer, a reporter on the Axios podcast "Re:Cap," explain that this disruptive move will change the game:

"Once you put all all these movies on to streaming, it is going to be hard to put the toothpaste back in the can, that's what consumers are going to expect."

This article by TIME explains more about the disruptiveness of the move and the potential impact across a wide variety of perspectives.

OK, what does this have to do with global mobility?

While many mobility teams spent much of this past year trying to get on top of a whole new environment where duty of care and employee experience got rebalanced with cost control and staffing concerns amid a new COVID world, some saw this as an opportunity to reconsider the status quo and look at how their program could not just re-set but take things to a higher level. Ideas related to increased flexibility and control for employees and re-defining what relocation benefits actually look like were already in play, but few programs have taken bold steps to shake things up (aka "disrupt") and offer employees something more, something different.

Well, after this past year, maybe it's time to consider a bold step and look at some new ideas for how to support mobile employees and get set for the turnaround later in 2021? Maybe it's time to consider bringing some innovation to your mobility program? How are you going to make your mobility program better in 2021?

The bigger question is what the aftereffects will be once 2021 has wrapped and, presumably, we are, indeed, all vaccinated (or somehow inoculated) and chomping on popcorn. Will audiences still want to go back to theaters to see big action movies, or will the convenience of home viewing have become too familiar by then? Will theaters even be around—and what will they look like?
