Why talent mobility matters and can make a difference for your company

A new report has revealed that 75% of hiring managers expect recruitment to become even more challenging for the remainder of 2022. (Greenhouse Hiring Manager Report ) Today's churning talent environment has never been more complicated. So, how can global mobility help?

Global mobility opportunities can help a company improve most any phase of the employee experience during that employee's tenure. It can attract candidates that ultimately become new hires. It can help develop existing employees across the organization and even elevate their level of engagement when provided fresh new challenges that promote their skill development. Ultimately, it can help retain those employees that you truly need to effectively and efficiently keep your company running smoothly. Companies have been and are continuing to leverage global mobility opportunities to move past the old traditional linear career progression matrix.

According to Adecco India, a workforce solution provider, "talent mobility" is set to emerge as a prominent trend in job markets. In this article in The Hindu,  Adecco shares that HR managers are now busy creating pathways to bridge talent gaps within their organizations by moving talent from role to role, which includes geographic relocations, cross-border moves, skill transitions across business roles, secondments (temporary transfers to another location or another job role), assignments, and promotions. Besides bridging talent gaps and supporting talent succession, global mobility creates an awareness across an organization that helps to prevent silos by enabling a free flow of talent within the organization and encourages managers and employees to expand their horizons. As it relates to the impact on retention, per CMD Vidya Sagar Gannamani:

“Talent mobility provided employees an opportunity to be at the helm of their career development and also gave them access to build their dream careers within their own organisations.”

He goes on to explain that organizations have been able to measure the business value mobility generates for them and provide tangible, diverse, and personalized career climbing walls to their workers. This is one of the key reasons why talent mobility is gaining momentum these days according to him.

There is no doubt that every organization benefits from having a global mobility strategy and that it should not be an afterthought. Those currently in your organization want it. Those not yet in your organization want it. Despite the cost increases recently in providing it, there remains positive value in the impact across the organization.
