How is baseball like being a strategic mobility advisor?

Not long ago, we posted that "Global mobility is both tactical and strategic" which emphasized that the best global mobility programs have policies, tools and partners that support the "tactical" requirements of moving employees (and their families) while also having the policies, tools, and capabilities to "strategically" guide and balance the company's resources, needs, and expectations.

Well, Ron Labin, VP of Business Development, is tapping into some sports analogies to explain 4 key ingredients or themes that mobility teams can tap to transform their programs. Ron, take it away!

How is baseball like being a strategic advisor:

"Baseball requires a strong strategic mindset and the ability to make decisions based on data and careful analysis. As Plus Relocation and my team work with clients to improve the #EmployeeExperience and #transform their #globalmobility programs, there are some key themes in common:

⚾ Both involve analyzing data: In baseball, teams use data to make decisions about things like player recruitment, game strategy, and performance analysis. In strategic advising, advisors use data to inform their recommendations to clients, whether it's market research, financial analysis, or other types of data.

⚾ Both require a long-term perspective: In baseball, teams need to think strategically about building a roster that can be competitive over multiple seasons, and they need to make decisions with the future in mind. Similarly, strategic advisors need to help their clients think long-term, looking beyond immediate challenges to anticipate future opportunities and risks.

⚾ Both involve managing risk: In baseball, teams need to make strategic decisions about when to take risks, such as stealing a base or making a bold pitching change. In strategic advising, advisors need to help their clients weigh the risks and rewards of different options, whether it's entering a new market, investing in a new technology, or making other strategic decisions.

⚾ Both require communication and collaboration: In baseball, coaches and players need to communicate effectively and work together to execute a game plan. Similarly, strategic advisors need to work closely with clients to understand their needs, goals, and challenges, and then develop strategies that align with those goals. Both baseball teams and strategic advisors need to communicate clearly and collaborate effectively to achieve success.

Whether it's playing baseball or #ProgramDesign, we're finding ways to have fun affecting change both in the dirt and in the office."
