Kick off the new year with a mobility mentor

Tis the season, not only to be gearing up for the holiday, but to be considering how to take you, your team, and your mobility program to the next level. At a few different conferences in 2023, we put together panels of corporate mobility leaders that have amazing skills, critical knowledge, the most positive attitudes, and vast amounts of experience under their belts. We then asked them to share their valuable insights and advice on how to elevate personal performance and improve their teams and programs.  These sessions were really well attended and highly rated because these experts provided some of what others like them are looking for which was practical solutions and methods for elevating performance.

Additionally, as we connected with corporate mobility leaders throughout last year, it came up repeatedly that while in-person conferences had kicked back in, there was still a need for more one-on-one coaching opportunities. They suggested a mentorship program where they could be connected with a trusted resource for both programmatic and career discussions.

The value and the need for mentorship in mobility

As this article from Carter Murray shares:

“One of the most important benefits of mentoring is the opportunity to learn from someone who has already succeeded in your field. A mentor can share their knowledge, skills, and experience, helping mentees to avoid common mistakes and navigate the challenges they might face as they progress in their career. Mentors can also provide valuable feedback on work and help to identify areas where improvement is needed.”

As we looked around, we did not see any specific mentoring programs in our industry that would be open to any and all corporate mobility professionals. While we are not saying there aren't any, our searches were fruitless. So with the encouragement of some of our clients and prospects, we became determined to help fill the gap. We are excited to tell you about a new program that is open only to corporate mobility professionals.

A new initiative for both mentees and mentors!

The Corporate Global Mobility Mentorship Program is a new initiative that we hope people will be interested in supporting! If you are interested in applying to be either a mentee or a mentor (or both), click below and share your details. Feel free to share with any other corporate mobility professionals that you think might be interested in the program too!

Mentees will benefit from personalized guidance, gaining insights into various aspects of global
mobility, including (but not limited to) career development, leadership skills, organizational management, policy and program competence, and/or program assessment and development. These meetings are intended to provide a safe environment to ask questions, discuss concerns, and get input and insight on personal development and/or program challenges. It is hoped that the meetings will provide mentees with a valuable platform to set and achieve professional goals, explore different career paths, and enhance their personal knowledge and performance.

Mentors will have the opportunity to share their wealth of experience and contribute to the
growth of their mentees. By providing guidance and support, mentors can develop a sense of
accomplishment knowing that they are making a difference in someone’s professional development. Additionally, mentors will have the chance to enhance their coaching and leadership skills through this mentorship experience. They will gain new insights and perspectives, which can broaden their understanding of the industry. Moreover, mentors will expand their network of mobility professionals by connecting with mentees and
potentially creating new professional relationships.

Don't miss out!

The application period runs from Dec 1 through Dec 18 and the intention is to have mentors and mentees assigned and introduced to each other by January 3, 2024. The program runs through the end of May 2024. There is no cost to participate. Mentors and mentees will be volunteering the time and knowledge to each other. We look forward to the positive impact this initiative will have for those able to participate!

Mentoring has long been recognised as a valuable tool for advancing one’s career. Whether you are just starting out in your field or are a seasoned professional, having a mentor can provide you with the guidance, support, and insights you need to achieve your goals. However, it is also a valuable asset for organisations to attract new talent, retain existing employees (particularly high performers), or better engage employees.
