Some Year-End Lessons That Resonate with Us

This year marks a significant milestone for our longtime partner Global Tax Network (GTN) as they celebrate 25 years of supporting mobile workforces. Since 2000 (which is when I joined Plus), they've witnessed the global mobility industry transform from spreadsheets and fax machines to sophisticated digital platforms and strategic talent programs. Having partnered and collaborated with them on supporting so many successful global programs, we are excited about their longevity! Their anniversary reflection offers valuable insights that align closely with what we see every day here at Plus Relocation too.

  1. Employee Experience Matters as Much as Compliance

One without the other leaves a program lacking. GTN emphasizes that while compliance remains essential, it's no longer the whole story. Mobile employees who receive clear communication, timely guidance, and plain-language explanations adapt faster and perform better. We see this constantly – our most successful client programs don't just move people compliantly; they create experiences where assignees feel supported throughout their journey. When relocating employees have dedicated support and transparent communication, they focus on their new role rather than logistics anxiety.

  2. One Size Does Not Fit All

The days of rigid, standardized mobility policies are over. GTN notes that a senior executive's long-term assignment requires vastly different support than a short-term project move. This flexibility imperative resonates deeply with our consulting approach. We're constantly helping clients move beyond one-size-fits-all policies to build tiered frameworks that deliver appropriate support based on assignment type, seniority, and business purpose – balancing consistency with the customization that modern talent mobility demands.

  3. Technology Enables, But Doesn't Replace Human Touch

While dashboards and automated workflows create efficiency, GTN reminds us that technology works best when it complements personal guidance. We've embraced this philosophy through our service delivery model – using technology to provide transparency and track milestones while ensuring assignees and HR teams always have knowledgeable professionals to call when something feels unclear. The combination of digital tools and human expertise creates both efficiency and peace of mind.

  4. Global Coverage Requires Local Nuance

GTN stresses that global consistency must be balanced with local expertise. Tax treatment, payroll cycles, and benefit structures vary dramatically by country. We see this challenge daily in our destination services work – what makes sense for a London relocation looks completely different in Singapore or Dubai. Success comes from having trusted local partners who understand both the regulatory environment and cultural context, not just recognizable brand names.

  5. Relationships Drive Results

Strong relationships between partners, HR teams, and employees form the foundation of successful mobility programs. When collaboration is built on trust, challenges get solved faster and employees feel valued rather than processed. This philosophy guides our entire approach at Plus Relocation. We're not just vendors processing relocations; we're strategic partners invested in our clients' success and their employees' experiences.

  6. The Future is Continuously Changing

Perhaps GTN's most important lesson is that adaptability defines long-term success. From economic disruptions to remote work evolution to expanding markets, change is constant. Companies that anticipate change rather than react to it stay resilient. This is precisely why we're investing in research like our AI Survey Report and developing frameworks that help clients build flexible, future-ready mobility programs. In fact, we have an active survey now that all corporate talent mobility teams are invited to take: 2026 Global Mobility Trends and Insights Survey

Congratulations to GTN on 25 remarkable years. Your insights remind us why partnerships matter – because when we learn and grow together, we serve our clients and their mobile employees better.

This year marks GTN’s 25th anniversary. Since our founding in 2000, we’ve seen the world of global mobility transform in ways few could have predicted. From the early days of spreadsheets and manual tracking to today’s digital platforms and strategic mobility programs, the pace of change has been extraordinary. For us, our 25-year milestone is more than just a number – it’s an opportunity to reflect on the lessons we’ve learned while helping companies support their mobile employees across industries, countries, and business cycles. While every client program is unique, certain themes have stood out over the years.
