In the "Year of the Water Tiger," celebrate, honor and reboot your mobility program

Happy Lunar New Year and let's welcome the "Year of the Tiger!" (Technically, it is the year of the "water tiger"). It is time to say goodbye to the Year of the Ox, and despite an ongoing pandemic, millions are celebrating around the world over the next couple of weeks. It's a holiday steeped in traditions and superstitions, typically setting off the largest human migration (chunyun) on the planet, and focused on families, fortune, happiness and health. This year, however, many who would normally travel are being impacted by restrictions due to the pandemic and the Olympics (in Beijing). We wish you all, where ever you may be, a very happy and prosperous New Year!

At the beginning of every year here at Plus, we have our annual Kick Off event, where we look back on the previous year, celebrate our accomplishments as a company, honor our efforts, and focus in on what will make us successful in the year to come. It's a time for reflection, where we revisit and learn from what the past 12 months have offered us. Inevitably, there are always moments where we say, "Oh yeah, wow, I forgot about that!" and we tap into many of Brené Brown's 87 emotions!

Scrolling back to last January on our Trending Topics page is a bit like a stroll down memory lane. But given that we posted 184 times in the past year, that might take you a bit of time to accomplish. We hit a very wide variety of trends and topics, including the future of work, policy perspectives, program benchmarks, real estate updates, managing compliance, employee experience and sustainability. Honestly, I believe that if you use the search box (in the upper right) and type in a topic you want information on, you'll get multiple posts on the topic. (Let me know if we are missing something you want more information on, though!) And our hope is that the post you find is something interesting, valuable, and that maybe even provides a unique perspective that you did not have prior.

So it is always intriguing for me to go back and look at what some of the top posts were for the year. Here are the top five posts from 2021, based on number of clicks:

  1. What are the pros and cons to "vaccine passports?" (March 24)
  2. It’s great to be growing at Plus (Sept. 14)
  3. Once again, Plus delights in industry survey (April 27)
  4. What are the key global mobility trends halfway through 2021? (July 23)
  5. Is mobility getting more serious about sustainability? (Nov. 12)

Here are the next few on the list, which tap into themes of leadership, the future, engagement, DE&I, employee experience and mobility priorities.

If you have not already, take a few minutes to go back and revisit the "snapshots" from the past year. Therapeutic? Traumatic? Both? Celebrate your wins, acknowledge the challenges and lean into the future!  It could be that the Year of the Water Tiger is the perfect time to reboot your mobility program.

Saying goodbye to the Ox, we enter the Year of the Tiger on February 1, 2022. Though the pandemic continues to overshadow the occasion, with public festivities once again pared down or canceled in many cities, millions of families around the world will still be celebrating at home. Here's a quick guide to the most common Lunar New Year traditions and superstitions, as well as insights from some of Hong Kong's most established geomancers on what the Year of the Tiger might have in store.
